Director: Anjan Dutta
Language: Bengali
Year: 2014
Verdict: Good

Yet another Byomkesh from Anjan Dutta and he did not disappoint. You can expect substantial amount of melodrama of a middle class joint Bengali family though. However, he kept the original Sharadindualive in the veins of the movie. Hence, there is the sharpness in the flow of the story; there are mysteries in the corners mingled with sinister, or is it, somewhat confused characters; sometime a subtle hint of romance and the final twist in the tale. And these make the movie interesting to me.

The story starts when a well to do retired businessman and his bodyguard were brutally murdered at the dead of the night in their own bedroom. Someone close to them is the murderer. Or is it a murderess? The clues lie in the raincoat and the razor-knife.

A very long list of near and distant relatives lived with the victim and that gave the story a plethora of characters to explore from and Anjan Dutta fully utilized every single one of them. I would not say the tone of the movie is inappropriately loud; may be just a little bit.

The cast was good, every one was well suited in their parts. What can I say more about Saswata Chatterjee, Kausik Sen or Abir, they are good as always. All the other actors suited their roles well.

All and all a good watch. Just keep an ear for the family melodrama a little.
