It is good to see that Hindi movie is getting female mad scientist and the hero is being used to steal money from her father. If you are hooked with this idea then you will like this movie.

When I started watching “Hasee to Phasee”, I thought I will fast-forward it and finish it in 15–20 minutes, however I ended up watching full 2 hours 20 minutes and to be truthful I enjoyed it.

The movie has three main characters, along with two sets of parents and a few friends and family. Meeta (Parineeti Chopra), the female protagonist (nowadays they are not using ‘heroine’ anymore) and Nikhil (Sidharth Malhotra), the male counterpart, and the third wheel Meeta’s Sister Karishma are the three corners on the triangle with Meeta and Nikhil making up the obtuse angle.

Nikhil met Meeta in a weeding seven years back, when she was running away from her family after stealing a large sum of money. They met again few days before Nikihil and Karishma’s wedding day. Not sure of the exact reason but Meeta first visits her sister Karishma. She in turn asks Nikhil to keep her away from her family and Meeta ends up staying with Nikhil’s typical Indian family.

Nikhil is the black sheep of a family full of IPS and IAS officers. He was never sure what he wanted out of life. He ended up starting an event management business after being pushed by Karishma, who was a model turned actor (use of actress has been stopped as well) herself.

Now Meeta comes into the picture. She seemed a bit mentally disabled at the beginning of this movie and finally turned out to be a brilliant (mad) scientist. Don’t ask me why she was acting weird and why she was on anti-depressants. I do not have any clue.

In the course of the movie one thing leads to another and Nikhil and Meeta fall in love with each other. Obviously!

The journey of 2 hours and 20 minutes was good. Comic relieves were not over powering. I liked newcomer Sidharth Malhotra. He fitted the half-heartedly intelligent and clearly vulnerable character of Nikhil well. “The other PC” Parineeti Chopra was also not bad herself.

One more score for this movie is, it shows a glimpse that somewhere, slowly but steadily, the portrayal of a female lead in a commercial Hindi movie is changing. They are not changing their looks or identity to get the boy; they have started to have degrees in technologies, somewhere down the line they are becoming more human. You can feel these changes and believe me it is a nice feeling.

Other than a few minor and one major question, like even after inventing perpetual motion machine, Meeta is still looking for funding, overall “Hasee to Phasee” is a good pass time with family and friends.
