10 Movies To Get You Coding Again

If there is one thing most developers have in common, it has to be the fact that they sometimes lack motivation. And no wonder. The projects most developers have to engage in often times take a toll on them. So how can we deal with the pressure? How can we reignite our passion for coding? What if we could do that through something we all love to do, Watch Movies. Here is a list of 10 movies you could watch to get you coding again.

TL;DR — Watch any of these movies to get motivated to code again.

SILICON VALLEY

If you want to understand Silicon Valley, watch Silicon Valley — Bill Gates

If you are a programmer and you haven’t seen this movie then I urge you to take time and watch it.

Silicon Valley is an American comedy series about a small team of developers at an Internet startup called Pied Piper. You watch them struggle to figure out their strategy, build their product, raise money, and take on Hooli, the tech giant that bears an obvious but superficial resemblance to Google or Microsoft.

It is an amazing movie suited for developers aiming to build a tech-based company one day.

Silicon Valley

Mr. Robot

MR ROBOT

I absolutely love this series. Unlike most movies that usually think hacking involves a human at his computer desk smashing keys, looking at a dark screen and minutes later saying “am in” 🙄. This series gets all the details right.

Movies interpretation of hacking

Mr. Robot follows Elliot, a young programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night. This movie is fun, rebellious, has a great soundtrack, and even includes realistic aspects of programming — which should make you feel very happy.

Pirates of Silicon Valley

PIRATES OF SILICON VALLEY

Pirates of Silicon Valley is a biography about the men who made the world of technology what it is today, and what it took to build up the global corporate empires of Apple Computer Corporation and Microsoft Inc.

From the very beginning of the movie you are given the core of Steve Jobs’ personality. The open lines are him speaking to the camera and saying,

“I don’t want you to think of this as just a film — some process of converting electrons and magnetic impulses into shapes, figures and sounds — no. Listen to me. We’re here to make a dent in the universe. Otherwise, why even be here? We’re creating a completely new consciousness, like an artist or a poet. We’re rewriting the history of human thought with what we’re doing. That’s how you have to think of this.”

Need I say more? 🤷‍♂️

The Social Network

THE SOCIAL NETWORK

Facebook, heard of it? Well, this movie talks about the journey (though some details were added for kicks) of the popular social network. The Social Network is believed to be based on true events for the most part, although Mark Zuckerberg has publicly disputed aspects of the movie in real life.

Either way, most coders get a thrill from watching The Social Network, largely because the movie portrays the amazing achievements one can attain simply by learning a programming language.

I also like the fact that they did get the hacking in the movie right. It’s not easy to make programming fun to watch on screen but they pulled it off a bit in this movie.

Iron Man

IRON MAN

Are you into A. I? Or thinking about dipping your feet into the field? This is a movie that could help you stay motivated. It features J.A.R.V.I.S an artificial intelligence system built by Tony Stark (the protagonist).

J.A.R.V.I.S(Just A Rather Very Intelligent System) is Tony Stark’s natural-language user interface computer system, named after Edwin Jarvis, the butler who worked for Howard Stark. Over time, it was upgraded into an AI system, tasked with running the business for Stark Industries as well as security for Tony Stark’s Mansion and Stark Tower.

Jobs

JOBS

Yet another movie about Steve Jobs. College dropout Steve Jobs is largely the iconic name and face of Apple Computers, a company he co-founded.

The biography of the legend in the world of computers Steve jobs an inspirational movie every programmer should watch. Jobs serves as an inspiration to fellow youngsters and elders alike. This movie not just depicts the technical genius in Jobs, but also his creative entrepreneurship and his commitment to his vision of changing the world.

THE FOUNDER

Yeah yeah, I know what you are thinking, this has nothing to do with coding or algorithms or AI or even gadgets, while that’s all true, it has to do with something much more important — Building an empire.

This is another perfect movie for those developers looking to venture into the startup world. It shows how persistence, determination and hard work pays off. The movie is not only centered around how to build a business but it also shows how to scale the business. It’s an amazing movie which should give your motivation a huge boost.

the imitation game

THE IMITATION GAME

A fan of algorithms? Or you love thinking in numbers? Well here is a movie made just for you.

Set in the World War II period, The Imitation Game portrays the life of Alan Turing and his team’s struggle to invent the world’s the first computer which could decipher the famous German Enigma code, and eventually win the War for the Allies.

The Internship

THE INTERNSHIP

We all have that dream where we get to work with a company like Google 🤩. Well here is a movie about two adults who did, yeah you heard me right, two adult interns. They both find their way into a coveted internship at Google, where they must compete with a group of young, tech-savvy geniuses for a chance at employment.

This is a great movie for adults who think they are too old to get into the tech world.

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS

Here is another movie that has nothing to do with coding or inventions. This a real story of a salesman with little money, a family and his dream of becoming a broker.

This movie teaches us about the power of perseverance and determination. As humans, we all have our breaking point and movies like these are made to motivate and inspire us to keep on going.

THAT’S ALL FOLKS

Whew😪 finally done. There you have it 10 movies to get you coding again. So if you ever feel down, you know what to watch 😜.

NB — Though these movies will give you the motivation you require, the next step is up to you — GO AND CODE. You started the engine, now use the power. It doesn’t matter if it’s a single line of code or a word, the idea is you START.

BEFORE YOU GO

Let me show you a magic trick. See that clap icon on the left-hand side of your screen? Click and hold the icon and watch what happen. Amazing right? 😁.
