HPV Awareness Project

Being a young woman means learning the best ways to care for an ever changing self. For the 2021 World Cancer Day on February 4th we are proud to support The HPV campaign by the St. Cyril Cancer Treatment Foundation is part of the World Health Assembly’s global strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem.

With the global strategy adopted by the WHO to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer from the public health sector, building awareness through the educational sector is primary amongst other forms of action to be implemented in the city of Lagos.

The World Health Organization (WHO)’s strategy of elimination rests on three main pillars:

1. Prevention through vaccination

HPV vaccination offers long-term protection against cervical cancer. Screening and treatment of precancerous lesions can prevent pre-cancer from developing into cancer.

2. Screening and treatment of precancerous lesions

For those who are identified with invasive cancer, timely care and treatment saves lives

3. Treatment and palliative care for invasive cervical cancer

Palliative care can greatly reduce pain and suffering.

All three pillars must be implemented collectively and at scale to achieve the goal of elimination.

The campaign will target Senior Secondary School students ages 13–17 focusing on the HPV Awareness, Sexual Health, Vaccination Access and Mental Wellbeing.
