I saw the perfect example of white male privilege. On Twitter, Kevin Gaughen, who identifies as a sci-fi author and co-founder of the US Liberal Party (a libertarian organization) said the following. (As you read through with me, see if you can spot the red flags.)

Here’s what he said:

Dear Democrats,

Many Americans (myself included) will be voting Democrat for the first time in our lives this November.

We’re not doing this because we agree with Democrats on policy; we’re doing it because we understand the need to stop Trump from destroying our Constitution.

If you see us non-Democrat Kamala supporters on Twitter espousing beliefs you disagree with, like on taxes or guns or whatever, try to let it go. Don’t be jerks. Don’t disparage and argue, expecting us to tow [sic] the Democrat line, because we won’t. We’re not Democrats. Being hostile to us will backfire and endanger our alliance.

We’ve made common cause with you in this election because our democracy faces an existential threat. We agree Trump is dangerous and we want to work with you to defeat him. Let’s be grateful for this mutual cooperation.

We can go back to arguing and being opponents after November. Until then, we have a country to save.

  1. “voting Democrat for the first time in our lives”

Since most choices in most elections are either Dem or Repub, with no libertarian choice, this means he and his buddies have been either writing in hopeless cases or voting Republican. This aligns with my impression that Libertarians are mostly educated white males who are contrarian by choice, cowardly by nature. If pressed, they can easily go GOP.

2. “we’re [voting for Harris] because we understand the need to stop Trump from destroying our Constitution.”

Hmmm. This strongly suggests they voted for a libertarian hopeless case like Tulsi Gabbard, or voted for Trump once, or more likely (based on his further comments) twice. Aside from the felony convictions, sexual assault adjudication, and business fraud court cases that confirmed what was already public knowledge, Trump hasn’t changed, yet only now are they recognizing him as a danger. Others knew, but they would not listen. Was J6 the turning point?

3. “If you see us non-Democrat Kamala supporters on Twitter espousing beliefs you disagree with, like on taxes or guns or whatever, try to let it go. Don’t be jerks. Don’t disparage and argue, expecting us to [tow] the Democrat line, because we won’t. We’re not Democrats. Being hostile to us will backfire and endanger our alliance.”

Let’s split this into sections.

Let’s mention taxes. The economy went to hell under Trump and the middle class and child poverty have improved under the Dems. Let’s mention guns. School and mass shootings increased under 45. But dropping the names of these topics, plus misusing the noun “Democrat” when the adjective “Democratic” is required, suggests he votes straight GOP, which means that, prior to right now, he was likely voting for those who brought us Trump in the first place. But he wants those of us who knew better and said so to make sure we “Don’t be jerks. Don’t disparage and argue.” If they, who were wrong, want to ally with us, who were right, why don’t they just shut up about their differences with us while we save the nation?

They didn’t make any attempt to head us away from a deep dive into the abyss until we got to the ledge, but now we must not be “hostile” to them? They said nothing when people were being exhorted to mainline bleach, when children were taken from the arms of their parents, when religion was used to ban people from our country regardless of whether they had actually done anything wrong?

4. “Being hostile to us will backfire and endanger our alliance.”

Here’s the real red flag painted with white privilege: If we don’t obey them, if we don’t roll out the red carpet, and overlook their hostilities we will “endanger our alliance.”

So, bottom line, they know that voting to save the Constitution is vital, but they might kick the Constitution to the curb if we hurt their fee-fees.

What kind of nonsense is this? It seems clear they have contributed to this chaos but still want to keep their privilege intact. To quote social media presence Bishop Bullwinkle, “Hell to the naw.”
