On Thursday, House Democrats held a shadow hearing titled “Kidnapped and Disappeared: Trump’s Assault Destroys U.S. Families and Communities” to discuss many issues surrounding the White House’s mass deportation policies. The hearing was held in light of Republicans’ refusal to address the myriad unconstitutional actions and the administration’s ignoring of various court orders.

Led by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), the hearing covered many topics, including the story of one witness whose husband of 13 years was detained and deported after being racially profiled earlier this year. Many experts were present at the hearing, noting the social, economic, and personal impacts current policies are having on families and their respective communities. Communities that are struggling to protect their neighbors from federal government overreach into local law enforcement activities, resulting in thousands of family separations.
