Dear friend,

If you’re concerned about the state of the world, but increasingly find yourself avoiding the news because you find the sensationalism upsetting, you’re not alone.

The Anti-Nihilist Institute (ANI) debuted in 2016 with a mission to combat the disinformation crisis with real, factual knowledge from people you trust. Part media outlet part think tank, ANI began as this Medium blog, where we’ve built an audience by publishing essays drawn on our own expertise alongside thought provoking analysis from prominent thinkers.

For example: celebrated author Peter Pomerantsev explains in this interview, conducted shortly after Donald Trump was elected, why and how Putin’s Russia taught him the importance of avoiding echo chambers and engaging with people who have different political opinions.

ANI has since its inception been ahead of the curve. We anticipated the remarkable, often counterintuitive events of the past few years, providing insight that held up under the weight of the news cycle into the issues that are rapidly reshaping our society.

The response has been gratifying. Via word of mouth and social media, ANI grew a significant audience of engaged readers. We are now ready to take ANI to the next level, which is why we recently hired an editor-in-chief and a communications intern. I am proud to report that we also accepted an invitation from NationSwell Council to join its community of social impact leaders and innovators.

Soon we will launch our new website and expand ANI’s programming.

In order to realize our plans, we need to raise $50,000 in initial funding — and that is why I’m writing to you.

Will you join and support us?

You and I know that by understanding the past, we’ll have the tools to create a better future. Providing context into emerging events is essential to tackling long-term trends, and more constructive than getting caught up in the cycle of outrage.

Donate today and join our community of reader-sustained, social-impact journalism. Your support is vital towards paying our small, dedicated staff and world-renowned contributors. ANI’s network of thought leaders and movement builders is ready to help you make sense of urgent contemporary issues like rising authoritarianism and the social impact of patriarchal attitudes, but in order to commission from them, ANI needs your support.

I know that you care about our shared future, and I am deeply appreciative of any support you can offer, whether it’s through a donation of your own or by taking the time to encourage your friends and relatives to make a donation. If you have any questions or ideas, please just ask. I’m here.

Happy holidays,

Anna Lind-Guzik
