This is a short article describing some creative software I’m newly aware of which I either think is interesting or potentially useful for the creation of certain types of digital art / Illustration. I did a similar post to this back in August 2018: Three desktop tools for digital painting
Disclaimer: I’m not being paid or sponsored to write, and these are my personal opinions.
The first one is called Wonderdraft.
is an intuitive yet powerful fantasy map creation tool for 64-bit Windows 10, Linux, and MacOSX.
Wonderdraft is a fantasy style map creation software. It creates beautiful hand drawn style fantasy maps without you needing drawing skills. I think it could be useful for novel writers who want to plan out their world for their story or for role playing purposes. I’m sure you could probably think of many more uses.
In a similar theme to the first, this next software I came across recently could also be useful for world building. This one is called Flowscape.
FlowScape by PixelForest
Let Nature Flow from your Brush. Available for Windows, macOS, Linux
Flowscape lets you create 3D nature scenes in an intuitive and fun way. I think its intended use is for relaxation, but I think it could potentially be a useful and inexpensive tool for creating your own 3D reference for landscapes in a creative project.
Animal Photo Art References Search
This last software I want to mention here is an online tool for finding art reference of animal heads in different angles. It uses an interactive 3D skull to filter through different head angles of animals which you can select in a drop-down menu. I’m not sure what the name of it is, but you can find it here:
