An Early Rise to go for Training Camp on Pulau Tekong
This story was told to me by my best friend who did his army training on Pulau Tekong (pulau is the Malay word for “island”). He spend a 4 days training camp on Pulau Tekong.
He had to wake up at 2pm to draw logistics stores to build a defense camp (e.g. barbed wires, special gloves for handling barbed wires, ramp-posts, changkols, spades, GPMGs, recoilless rifles, etc) on the island. They also had to draw M16 personal arms from Armskote (an armory where firearms are kept), clean up their personal rifles, etc. After drawing stores, field-packs and personal arms, and loading them up onto 3 tonner trucks, he and his army colleagues had to go for breakfast.
By 4.30am they boarded 3 tonner trucks to go to the ferry point at Changi Point to board a LCT (Landing Craft Tank) ship to go to ‘Tekong’ island, 45 mins away.
