Greenland is an autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark. It is by far the largest geographically of three constituent parts of the kingdom; the other two are metropolitan Denmark and the Faroe Islands. The citizens of all territories are full citizens of Denmark and citizens of the European Union. Greenland is one of the Overseas Countries and Territories of the European Union and is part of the Council of Europe. The capital and largest city of Greenland is Nuuk. The Kingdom of Denmark explained

The Kingdom of Denmark, (or simply the country of Denmark), is a unique sovereignty which consisting of 3 separate territories united by the Constitutional Act, which applies to the entire territory:

1) metropolitan Denmark — the kingdom’s territory in continental Europe and sometimes called “Denmark proper” (Danish: egentlige Danmark)

two autonomous (but not sovereign) regions:

2) Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic and

3) Greenland in North America. The relationship between the three parts of the Kingdom is known as Rigsfællesskabet (The unity of the Realm).
