10 reasons to start a podcast in 2019 — and how…
There are so many ways you can promote yourself online. But the best way is probably to start a podcast where you interview people. Here are the 10 reasons and I give more explanations in the video:
Now… How to do this?
I’ll share with you the best way if you don’t want to invest too much time in it. Starting a podcast can sound overwhelming but it doesn’t have to. So I keep it simple, the most important is to get the ball rolling:
1- Run live face-to-face interviews
The main reason is to avoid editing. Editing is a very time-consuming task. It also forces your guest to be spontaneous, which leads to better conversations. I’d say 30 min is a good duration to start with.
I also recommend starting with face-to-face. You could argue that it limits your options but it’s more reliable because you don’t depend on the connection. It’s also usually more dynamic and you have better vibes.
2- Maximise the usage of that 1 interview
I use my laptop to run it live on Facebook. The Facebook live has a very average sound and image quality, especially depending on the connection, but it gets people’s attention.
At the same time, I’m recording in 1080p with my iPhone in plane mode and with a mic I bought for $65 connected to the iPhone. This recorded version will be with high-quality sound and video and I’ll use it for the Youtube video & the podcast.
3- How to distribute?
Your Facebook live is automatically on your wall, so there is nothing to do.
The video you shot on your iPhone can be directly uploaded to YouTube.
Now time to upload the podcast. Use Anchor. It’s amazing. Its free and in a few clicks you’ll be distributing your podcast on every platform, including iTunes. It’s way more convenient than setting it up on iTunes.
When you’ve uploaded your YouTube video, download the sound as an mp3 using this tool. Then upload the mp3 on Anchor. And publish!
Boom! You’re done!
So to recap, with that 1 interview that takes 30 min to record and another 30 min to distribute, you have:
- 1 Facebook live interview
- 1 YouTube video
- 1 podcast on iTunes and other platforms
Equipment needed:
- An iPhone or anything that can record a high-quality video.
- A good mic for the podcast. I recommend this one.
- A laptop with a webcam and a mic for the live interview (optional)
