My phone and I have a love-hate relationship.

Sometimes we need a break from each other. Sometimes we hurt each other’s feelings. Sometimes we stop each other from sleeping.

I do something weird with my phone despite our dysfunctional relationship. It started by accident when I was suffering through my battle with mental illness. I’d walk down the street with a hundred and one thoughts buzzing through my mind.

When you suffer from a mental illness (like anxiety) your thoughts sound like the commander of an army trying to come up with strategies to defeat the enemy. Every thought sounds like a plan to a critical mission. The goal of each mission is to ensure you don’t fail. You end up making backup plan after backup plan hoping something will go wrong and your enemy (the mental illness) won’t be revealed to everyone that you care about.

The challenge with all of the noise that can go on in our head is that when we have a good idea or a creative spark, it gets lost.
