Focus More On You And Less On Others

It’s crazy how much someone can know about others.

Most people could speak for hours about a person, but when they are asked something about themselves, they aren’t as excited anymore. It’s because they spend most of their time learning about others. They know people more than they know themselves.

Instead of focusing on themselves and improve their life. People would rather focus on others and spend their life without ever knowing their true purpose.

They know so much about others that they forgot about themselves. They spend weeks, months learning about everyone else. They want to know how this person succeeded. They’re jealous. They’re trying to replicate other’s success. They don’t realise you can’t replicate success; you must know yourself to be able to succeed.

How can you expect to become successful when you don’t take the time to learn about the only person that matter. You.

Save your time

When it comes to excuses, not having the time to do something is an excuse we all used at least once. Still, if there is one thing that is common to everyone, it’s the number of hours we have in a day. What you do or don’t comes down to your priorities.

Your time is limited. If 24 hours is already not enough for you, then you can’t afford to spend it stalking others and learning every detail of their life.

Stop watching hours of video about how someone got successful and please stop trying to find the secret. There is no secret. No matter what industry, you are only successful if you’re willing to put in the work.

Instead, use that time for you.

What do YOU want?

A couple of years ago, when I was still going to the gym, I used to see people lifting heavy weights, and I was the only one using 20 lbs dumbbells. So, I thought I would try to take heavier dumbbells to compete with them, but then I realised it was stupid. I was trying to get lean and muscular; I was not trying to gain 40LBS of muscle and become a bodybuilder. We both had very different goals, and It didn’t make sense to compete.

I later understood that this true for everything in life. We all have different goals. Some want to be filthy rich when others just want to live a modest life. Don’t try to do the work of a CEO if all you want is to live an easy and peaceful life.

Look at the picture I used for this article. You can see Le Clos looking at Phelps overtaking him. This is exactly what you shouldn’t do. Instead of focusing on his lane, Le Clos was focused on Phelps’s performance, and Phelps was focused on his lane.

Life is a battle against yourself. Waking up every day, trying to beat the person you were yesterday. And without realising it, you’ll be better than everyone else. But to achieve that you need to focus on you.

Take a moment to be with yourself.

Ask the right questions.

Determine what would be your life dream, once you have a vision, you can start working.

Take the time to understand what you want.

Develop self-awareness

Now that you’ve determined what you want, it’s time to ask the tough question.

Is it possible to achieve what you want?

I like to think that everything is possible, but sometimes it’s just not.

It’s great to have a vision, but sometimes no matter how hard you work at something, you just won’t make it. I know it sounds like a pretty pessimist statement, but if today my vision would be to play at the NBA, no matter how much I love basketball and how much I work, I’m not going to make it. Why? Because I don’t have the talent, I’m not a good player, plus I can’t start training at 22 when I haven’t my whole life.

I know it’s not realistic to try to get in the NBA at 22 when I’m not good at it. I can still play basketball as a hobby, but It would be a waste of time to try to make it my career.

What you should do instead is to determine your strengths and weaknesses. Start by your strengths first, because we’re all great to pinpoint our weaknesses, but when it comes to our strengths, it’s another story.

Once it’s done, find your sweet spot, it’s the combination of what you like and your strengths.

If you’re good at what you do and you like what you do, then you’ll win.

That’s it. People need to be reminded how important it is to be self-aware.

Stop looking at what your friends are doing. Everyone got a different story and knowing someone’s life won’t help you succeed.

Focusing on others is for losers. Winners focus on themselves.

It’s only by taking the time to learn about yourself that you’ll be able to improve your life and hopefully succeed.
