How Downsizing My Life Gave Us More Freedom
Modern life is full of so many things. Everyone around us seems to be accumulating more and more stuff. Our lives are bombarded with stuff.
Every holiday season we have media telling us to buy this or that new gadget, or a new toy. Every “season” we have new fashion trends coming out and telling us how we need to change everything we already have and buy something new to “update.”
No matter what we have, it isn’t enough. I have fallen prey to the marketing often. The Apple Watch? Oh yeah, I have 2.
I was fully invested in the same accumulation of things along with everyone else I knew. I was a Target fiend. I would wander the aisles of Target with my Starbucks, about as basic as they come. I was spending hundreds a month on needless junk. But hey, it was cute.
We were living much like most people, minus the size of our family I suppose. We were living in a suburb, four-bedroom home, two cars, and we were filled to the brim with stuff.
It wasn’t working. I was overwhelmed. The clutter fueled my anxiety to a point where there were days I couldn’t function. We had so much stuff and it always ended up all over the place. It is hard enough to maintain the stuff for one person, try it for 9!
