How to Change Overnight

Everyone changes many times throughout their lifetime.

However, I believe that sometimes, we don’t have time to change and just have to literally change overnight. In fact, that is what I have done and still do to this day.

A few years ago, I was at rock bottom. I had nothing to my name and life was literally just crumbling around me. I spent majority of the time going out and getting drunk with friends. Finally, one day, I had enough. I wrote what I had to do to become the person I aspired to be and committed to it.

Why Should You Change Overnight

I am one that is typically against quick hacks and an advocate for being patient (except when driving… pedal to the metal). However changing overnight may be needed when you just have to make a change.

If you’re like me, you’re not aware of most things until it is too late. Over the last few months, I have been a bit reckless with my spending habits. Wasting a good amount of money on eating out and dipping into my savings. I also wasn’t sticking to my budget and even slipped up and missed a few bills (oops).

Change won’t happen unless you commit to it.

So, when I was absolutely fed up and disappointed with myself, I created a plan to get back on track and committed to it overnight. Now, I am back on track and doing good, but it simply just took me having to create a plan and commit to it.

How do you change overnight?

Changing overnight actually is pretty easy actually.

It simply involves you noticing the problem. Whatever it may be, you need to know exactly what the problem is to correct it.

Then, you need to figure out why the problem is there. I recently started listening to Simon Sinek’s book, Start with Why. I haven’t finished it yet, but I pretty much get the idea and have been implementing ‘why’ everywhere in my life.

When it comes to your problem, figure out why it is there. I figured out that I was simply not paying good attention to my finances because I have been busy doing things I didn’t need to do (playing Xbox more, shopping more, etc.) and because I was cooking less, I would typically go out and get fast food (ugh).

Once you know the problem and the why, make a plan. Not just any plan, but a plan on how you’ll get to where you want to be and what you need to avoid doing to avoid reverting back to the problem.

Now, that you’re all done with that process, all you have to do is commit to it. Don’t wait until the beginning of the week, month, or year. Simply start implementing your plan immediately.

Quick Recap

  • Figure out what the problem is
  • Figure why the problem is there
  • Create a plan on what you need to do and what you don’t need to do
  • Commit and implement your plan immediately.

Conclusion

In conclusion, changing overnight is possible and on some occasions, necessary. As long as you know the problem, the why, have a plan, and commit to it, you’ll be on your way to a better you.
