It can happen to all of us — we suddenly find ourselves engulfed by despair. Perhaps we have experienced a devastating loss. Maybe we have reached a breaking point. Or maybe we are experiencing a sudden, unexpected turmoil.

There are three parts to coping when life throws you a curveball: 1) stop and recover; 2) plan; 3) follow through with new habits and routines.

Sometimes things happen in life which can really affect us, especially when we don’t see them coming. Such things can push our mood to sudden extremes. We can feel fearful and anxious. It can become hard to think. Hard to concentrate. The fight or flight response clicks in.

Without warning, my partner of 11 years told me it was over. We didn’t live together but we saw each other for most of the day everyday and often stayed over at each other’s places. Neither of us was working so we could spend all our time together and we did.
