If You Think About It Like That, I Can See Why You’re Successful

So that’s how you view things?

Hey, let’s partake in a little process today.

When the greatest people achieve something, it’s always interesting hearing what they have to say after the fact. Some nonchalantly brush off the praise, and others give us the humble spill about how their grateful.

It always amazes me when someone does something great and then casually responds like it wasn’t a big deal.

Not long ago, I watched Steph Curry — arguably the best 3 pointer shooter of all time — break a record one night during a season game. I don’t remember exactly the record, but it was crazy seeing him explain that he didn’t even know he was on the verge of breaking a record.

It was literally a normal night at work — wow.

Steph has gotten to a flow state where being the best isn’t his concern; A state that we all need to tap into — loving the process.

Loving the process is probably the toughest thing to do if we are keeping it real.

Don’t think so?

If the process wasn’t difficult to love then why aren’t we all millionaires? Why aren’t we all living our best lives?

The process is hard to love.

The process is staying up all night until that project is done, it’s feeling depressed about our progress and still working, it’s writing only 100 words when you don’t feel like doing a damn thing, it’s reaching a milestone and still realizing you have a long way to go.

It’s tough — but I’ve learned how to make loving the process a little easier by observing greats like Steph Curry. The mindset that they have — is just different.

Here are a few ways I partake in the process:

Just Doing It

Yes, the famous slogan heard around the world is really telling you some shit you need to heed. I can’t put it simpler than this, when you start doing something that you actually want to do, your mind becomes activated and you just do it.

Before I start writing, I’m full of doubt and worry that I won’t be able to type up some heat, but when I start to hit a few letters on the keyboard, ideas just start to flow.

No one is going to create or publish something that they don’t think is good — that’s just embarrassing. You can compare it to making a playlist on Apple Music, it’s always going to be fire to you.

What Does It Take?

To engage in the process effectively, I also have vision. Thinking about what it takes to get to where I want to be, and also looking at what other people had to go through to get to a peak will get me wanting to not waste any time.

Everything including the negatives are looked at in a positive light.

If I have to go through x to get to z, I’m no doubt going to go ahead and do it.

When I was younger, I use to play RPG games that took a lot of grind to get to fun levels. The thought of leveling up excited me so much that it fueled me to do the same action for hours until I got there.

The same concept applies to my adult life today. The big checks, the respect, the thought of subtly flexing on everybody who counted me out, the level up — energizes me to go beyond.

Adjust Your Lens to a Good Focus

Man.

I know sometimes I wake up and I’m just not feeling it. The thought of doing anything productive just isn’t there. My bed is too comfortable and the only thing I want to do is make love to it.

One thing that helps me get active is honing in and being specific on what I want to do in regards to the activity I’m doing.

Give it a try.

When it comes to my writing, to get started I try to focus on one thing I want to improve on. This takes the pressure off of me. I know I will be satisfied if I genuinely tried to improve my voice or go for a new word count.

In the process of focusing on one specific goal, I’m going to try my best in other aspects, but I’m not going to be worried about doing so.

Your best work is often produced when you are comfortable and not stressing everything.

There is no bullshitting the process. It may be hard to love and trust, but doing so will make things much easier.

Let’s partake in a little process today.
