Invest in Proper Training

Today, I had my first ever personal training session, and it got me thinking about the importance of proper practice.

We all know that if you practice something again and again, you’re going to get better at it over time.

But what separates getting good from becoming great is how you practice.

It’s easy to learn about all different kinds of practice methods with the internet these days. You can even try them on your own and figure out what works best for you.

However, if you really want to get better at something faster and more effectively, it pays to hire an expert. He or she will not only know more than you do about X but also how to properly practice X to help you achieve your goals.

I think there’s a stigma around hiring coaches as a young professional. Maybe it’s because our parents always paid for our sports participation all those years, and now it’s on us haha. There really shouldn’t be a stigma, though. If you really want to get better at something you care a lot about, then it’s totally fine to pay someone to help you do it.

Don’t get me wrong; I know it can be expensive. I actually only bought 5 personal training sessions. But I bet you if you took a closer look at how you’re spending your money, you can cut back in other places that are probably less important than the thing you want to get better at.

And even if you can’t afford regular training, that’s totally fine. Pay for some expert coaching sessions to learn tips, tricks, and the proper way to practice for your level of skill. When those run their course, you’ll know enough to do proper practice on your own. You’ll be much better off than if you never hired a coach in the first place.

If you continue that proper practice, you’re going to master your training and may want to take things to the next level. That’s when you can seek a more advanced trainer and do the same thing over again. Rinse and repeat this process until you accomplish your goals.

I’m not knocking the hustle of someone who’s trying to get better at something on their own. In fact, I have a lot of respect for that person. What I’m trying to shed some light on is that it pays to invest in proper training to accelerate your learning and growth. Wish me luck in the rest of my training sessions :)

What is something you’ve wanted to hire a coach for but haven’t yet?
