Layers of Emotion & Understanding Happiness
We tend to think we are all just experiencing one emotion at a time.
We are not.
Emotions layer up on each other.
We can feel many things at one given time but we may only be aware of the surge of whichever is the dominant emotion at one time.
We are not taught to explore all or even be aware of all those layers, yet they can be so informative for the journey into self knowledge and self awareness.
Mindfulness practices vary slightly from one tradition to another. But in most of them mindfulness of emotional and physical states are very important, crucial even to this whole journey into mindful ways of living.
If you stop right now and focus for a moment, take a deep breath and then clear your mind of extraneous thoughts.
What are you feeling right now?
I could give you a list, I am hungry because I mostly only eat twice a day and I am nearing my second meal time. I do count off the last three hours or so until I start preparing that meal lol. But I do not view hunger as a problem state to experience. For some people hunger is associated with loss of love, anxiety and all sorts of other states and emotions.
