Leave your Comfort Zone: Start Now!
You want to start something you like, maybe a new idea you came up with but you are unable to do it and I do understand why.
Perhaps, the finances are not there, you don’t have the qualifications yet, you don’t look a certain way, you think everyone has done it, and whatsoever reasons that you have managed to come up with.
I am here to tell you start now!
“The best time to start was yesterday.
The next best time is NOW”
Unknown.
I have had projects and ideas that I wanted to execute but I didn’t. You know why?
I gave myself a lot of excuses; you are not smart enough, you know you will fail, people already have that idea and are implementing it, and how would you manage such with what you have on your plate?
A lot of these thoughts flooded my head and at the end of the day, even after planning, I never got to it, I just procrastinated.
I knew that my procrastination was a way of avoiding the fact that I was truly afraid. Yes, that’s right.
I was afraid; afraid that I would fail, afraid that people would be disappointed in me, afraid that I would embarrass myself and wouldn’t know how to handle the shame.
Having those thoughts increased my anxiety and so I remained where I was and flowed with the tide.
I am not exactly successful, neither are things easy now but you know what, I took a step and you can see one of the result; writing on Medium.
If you are anything like me, then having this kind of fear is really not the way to go. You know why? You would never get anything done, at least not something out of your comfort zone.
You might also never succeed except by chance and if you don’t get over this fear and stop this procrastination, you will not move forward.
Sometimes we have this conversation in our head why we can’t do what we want, why we can’t pursue dreams and truthfully, they are sound excuses.
However, I am going to give you two (2) major reasons why you should start now.
You gain little by staying where you are
Notice I didn’t say “you got nothing to lose” but “you gain little by staying where you are”.
This is because when people fail in whatever projects they embark in, they sometimes have something to lose, like finances, dedication and so on.
Like I stated, just some, while some really don’t have anything to lose because they literally have nothing but to start and pursue what they want.
Think about it. You have a brilliant idea you would like to pursue but you have decided not to. This could be because someone is already doing it or it doesn’t look feasible.
If you don’t pursue it, you won’t lose anything, why? You really never invested anything so that’s a win win.
Do you know you would gain little to nothing also? What happens is that you are stuck where you are and you just won’t move forward because you want to remain in your comfort zone.
You might also be filled with regrets later, a lot of “what ifs”.
What if I applied for that program? What if I spoke up? What if I started that idea? No one wants those kinds of thoughts later in their lives.
Now imagine you pursue it and it succeeds, you have achieved success. However, if it fails, the silver lining there is that you know what not to do and what to do supposing you start again.
A popular example of someone that failed a lot of times before achieving success is Thomas Edison. He failed over 10,000 times before he finally invented the electric light bulb.
When asked if he felt like a failure after having gone through over 9,000 failed attempts, Edison simply stated
“Why would I feel like a failure? And why would I ever give up? I now know definitely over 9,000 ways an electric light bulb will not work. Success is almost in my grasp”.
Did you know that the famous author Stephen King’s first novel, “Carrie”, was rejected 30 times before it was published?
Today, King has over 50 novels and has sold over 350 million copies of his work. Imagine if he never started; if he gave up because his manuscripts were rejected? He probably wouldn’t be known and I just might not be writing about him.
People that are successful went beyond their comfort zone, did what they did with hard work and never gave up.
If you want achieve success, you also have to leave your comfort zone, work hard and decide not to give up on what you truly believe in.
It simply takes one breakthrough for success.
What if you succeed?
Are you not even the slightest bit curious? What if you succeed?
If you could see the future and realize that you succeeded, would it change anything?
Wouldn’t you be glad if your ideas gave value to your generation and the next?
The truth is, this life is full of risks and we have to decide if we are willing to take the risk or not. We have to decide to let go of fears, anxiety and negative thoughts and beliefs.
Here are a few quotes worth thinking about
“The doers are the major thinkers. The people that really create the things that change this industry are both the thinker and doer in one person.
- Steve Jobs”
“Some people want it to happen, some people wish it to happen, others make it happen
- Michael Jordan”
“I always advise people — Don’t wait! Do something when you are young, when you have nothing to lose, and keep that in mind.
- Steve Jobs”
I implore you to start something today, don’t give yourself excuses, and don’t give yourself the opportunity to procrastinate. Start Now!
