Life is full of experiences. Remember them forever.

What did you do today? How about last weekend? Or last month?

For most people, the further you go back in time, the less you’ll remember. You might be able to figure it out from one of the social networks you use, or that might have been the day you finally decided that nobody wanted to know that you were out for yet another meal.

You should be able (and actively encouraged) to remember as much of your life as you want, without worrying about what impression that gives your friends and family.

Your biography is important, so what options do we have?

Social Media: The go to for everything

In today’s social world, we’re encouraged to share an increasing level of detail about our day to day lives with anybody that’s willing to listen, whether that’s family, friends or even people we don’t know.

We’re becoming accustomed to pushing the boundaries of what people care about, sharing more and more in the hope of getting that acknowledgement from anybody that might be listening.

Every day it seems there’s a new and novel way to do this, each of them becoming more throwaway than the last.

Somewhere in amongst this noise are the experiences that matter and the memories that you want to cherish in the years to come.

Personal Diaries: The other extreme

Remember those paper diaries and scrapbooks that you used to (try to) keep as a kid? Personal diary apps aim to replace these, allowing you to record your private thoughts, alongside photos and other media.

Simple and beautifully executed in a lot of cases, in my mind they have a couple of flaws:

  1. Remember how hard it is to try and maintain a private diary? Push notification prompts certainly help, but it’s all down to you, and despite our best intentions, we all know what tends to happen…
  2. Life is inherently social, so how do we remember those shared experiences and memories?

Social, in a Private way: The best of both worlds?

Surely there must be a better way to record and remember as much or as little of our life as we want to? Is it possible to embrace the power of social without compromising on privacy?

Imagine:

  1. Being able to share experiences, photos, memories, etc, with people who were there at the time and nobody else — social
  2. Recording your own private thoughts and memories alongside shared experiences — private
  3. Collaborating with your friends and family to remember even more about your life — power of the crowd
  4. Never losing control of what you want to remember on your biography — complete control

Sound good? It did to me, but the solutions already out there didn’t tick all the boxes. That’s what led me to conceive of MyLife.bio.

MyLife.bio is all about you, it’s your biography: your shared experiences, your private thoughts and memories, all rolled into one application, safe in the knowledge that your privacy will never be compromised.

The first version of MyLife.bio launched into the App Store and Google Play over the weekend. We know it’s not perfect, but we wanted to get it out there so you can get your hands on it, play with it and tell us what you love or hate.

You can find out more and download the apps at https://mylife.bio
