Life Mastery: How to Create A Reality Distortion Field That Maximizes Your Success
We’ve all noticed that one person…
Who always seems to be in control. Who looks more capable than anyone else in the room. Who looks like he has life figured out.
You know when you are in the presence of someone who possesses these traits. You can feel the power behind their presence. Like a magnet, you feel sucked in by the powerful individual.
Having a winner’s vibe is one of life’s most ultimate advantages. Albert Einstein captured this belief in the following quote:
“Everything is energy. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”
What this quote tells us, is that if we want to shape our lives in a powerful way, we must do it by changing our vibration. Our vibe.
This is why I’ve spent the last couple of years researching, writing about, and meditating, on the principles behind increasing one’s vibration.
This article introduces a profound yet obvious idea that will help you along your journey to self-mastery.
The idea is simple: Change your vibe to change your life.
Sean Connery, Steve Jobs And All the Most Powerful People Have A Strong Presence
Pick a top performer in any field. I bet you he has a magnetic aura:
- Hollywood Sex Symbols. The biggest Hollywood stars are most often men and women who are the “sexiest.” Men like Sean Connery and Harrison Ford have been chased by women, even well into old age. Unlike their peers (some of who were better looking), they exude a raw sex appeal that elevated them to sex symbol status.
- Tech Industry. Most of us have heard of Steve Job’s reality distortion field. Where, with his charismatic presence and unshakable will, he was able to get create a reality distortion field that got Apple to achieve the impossible. Over. And over. Again.
- Basketball. Many consider Michael Jordan to be the greatest basketball player of all time. One of the traits that are most cited to present this case is his winning mindset. He had a killer instinct and ruthless drive that separated him from the rest. Jordan was so addicted to winning that he tried to retire twice before officially leaving the league.
What all these top performers have in common is a strong presence. A presence so powerful that it fed into their success. They were completely comfortable with themselves. Allowing them to climb faster socially and industry-wise, convince people to support their journey, and attract them to higher achievements.
All of this is happening on a deeper level. Here’s an explanation of what happens to you when you change your thoughts and believes…
How Your Beliefs Shape Your Life
“We are only subject to what we hold in mind. The only power that anything has over us is the power of belief that we give it. By “power,” we mean energy and the will to believe,” - David R. Hawkins, Healing and Recovery.
In 2010, three Medical professors published a paper that revealed that the intention to move is processed by the supplemental motor area of the brain. In other words, the brain is triggered by the mind’s intention and not vice versa.
The brain acts like a receiving device, picking up thoughts and feelings, then translate them into memory and a functional nervous system. Thus, unconsciously or consciously, the body expresses the beliefs that are held in mind.
So what does this mean if you hold a lot of negativity?
Everybody Always Knows What You Are Thinking
Our thoughts and feelings are not private. They are constantly being broadcasted into the world.
Your feelings, thoughts, and beliefs always affect those around you, regardless of whether they are spoken, expressed, or not.
You are likely to have experienced this. You know, for example, when someone is angry at you. You can sense their repressed anger and might even ask, “Is something wrong?”. Even if they reply, “Nothing,” you can feel their anger.
Because of how you feel about others, you are unconsciously influencing people all the time. Your given beliefs about others are reflected back onto you.
So people who hold a lot of hatred find themselves living in a world full of hate and people who hate them. Whereas people who carry a lot of courage with them find themselves in a world full of challenges and opportunities.
If you feel excited and elated, the other person will feel it too. Whereas if you feel nervous, so will the other person. Essentially, your emotions transfer onto others and onto the world.
The Power of a Strong Vibe
With the observation above, it is clear that our feelings deeply affect our relationships.
Your vibe is your overall energy. It’s the collection of thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that you most carry within. So when you are in a lower energy state such as frustration, guilt, shame, hate, and any other negative feeling, you have less power. Whereas if you hold more forgiveness, more gratitude and kinder emotions, you have much more power. You have greater influence.
When you are in a negative state, you more vulnerable to having being energy depleted. You have to constantly fight the negativity the world reflects back to you. In contrast, if you really want to influence others, you should be loving them. Even if anger, hate or criticism is thrown at you, it will have no effect on you. Positivity beats negativity.
Hence, the truism in Buddha’s statement, “Hate is not conquered by hate. Hate is conquered by love. This is an eternal law.”
Suppressed feelings take a toll on your body. If you try to block your energies, you’ll end up indulging your repressed urges (and do things you regret). Instead, what you want to do is to free this energy.
By letting go and redirecting this energy, you tap into newfound energy that is available for work, creativity, growth and interpersonal relationships.
How to Get Reality Distorting Vibe That Attracts Success
Success is an automatic byproduct of positive attitudes and simple principles as outlined by Jack Canfield in The Success Principles. Here are my favorite principles from the book:
- “If you want to be successful, you have to take 100% responsibility for everything that you experience in your life.”
- “Everything you think, say, and do needs to become intentional and aligned with your highest purpose, your values, and your goals.”
- “When you establish a higher level of personal standards, not only do you get better treatment from those around you, but suddenly you also begin attracting others with the same elevated standards.”
Here are other strategies, principles, and beliefs I found useful in getting a vibe that automatically attracts more success to your life:
1. Attractive Beliefs = Attractive Life.
In order to get the get an attractive life, you must first have attractive beliefs.
To believe is to be-live. To be the life you want. Action means nothing if you don’t believe in it.
You cannot achieve success by trying to change the environment around you, you only do it by realizing who you are at the deepest level.
Deep changes come from the inside out. The shift needs to be internal in order for the outer world to adjust.
Here are a handful of beliefs you can use today:
- Avoid the trap of being a victim. Take full responsibility for everything that happens to you.
- The only thing that matters is that you do your best at whatever it is you are doing.
- You change the world not by what you do, but by who you become
These beliefs will affect your behavior towards life and set the frame for a life filled with long-term happiness and personal success.
2. Think Win-Win.
Great success and power come automatically to those who think in terms of win-win. They’re always looking for ways to be in the world that is mutually beneficial to them and others.
What kind of life would you have if you set up everything as a win-win? Take, for example, a date. You win if your date shows up and you win if they don’t. If they show up, you could potentially have a good time and enjoy their presence. At the same time, if she flakes, that’s ok too. You bring a book to read. You socialize with others. You have free time to do something you know will better your life.
The more you start to see your life as a series of small wins, you begin to build your “winner effect” momentum. A group of scientist found that this phenomenon describes that when people experience success, they boost their chances to experience more success later on.
Studies on the winner effect show that when a man wins at something, he receives a boost in testosterone. And with that boost, he becomes more confident and more risk-taking, making him more likely to succeed in the future.
So start seeing everything in your life as a series of small wins to boost your self-confidence and increase your chances of winning again.
3. Be Meditative. Be in a State of Flow.
There is no correlation between hard work and success. The path to success is not hard or gruesome, but very enjoyable and self-rewarding.
Your vibe is what matters.
Your vibe is a state that defines how you feel right now. It’s how you feel about everything. About your abilities, your future, your relationships, your status, and your life. It defines how happy you are, how much you feel like you’re in control of your life. It determines your flow.
This reality distortion field is what you project to the world about yourself. As Sir John Hargrave wrote in Medium post, “And that perceived reality becomes actual reality. You believe it. Others believe it. And when you get down to it, that’s all that’s required for reality: that we all believe it.”
When you become meditative, everything is done perfectly. Everything is done to the best of your ability at that given moment.
“If you train yourself to become what you are doing, you will be meditative. If you allow your activity to consume you whole, you will be meditative. Herein lies the secret to creating Masterpieces. The doer must disappear! For once the doer disappears, his masterpiece appears.” — Kapil Gupta, Atmamun
When an athlete or artist is having the performance of their life, it was a result of dissolving into the performance. They simply disappeared. And because they disappeared, there was no interference, only their best. Only perfection.
Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi confirmed this when he out to study the state of mind of top performers in different fields. He also discovered that top performers more easily and frequently achieved a state of “flow”. Blogger Rami Aidy characterized this state perfectly (in his words):
- Intense and focused concentration on the present moment
- Merging of action and awareness (i.e. pure consciousness)
- A loss of reflective self-consciousness (or egolessness)
- A sense of personal control or agency over the situation or activity
- A distortion of temporal experience (time just flies by)
- Experience of the activity as intrinsically rewarding
Essentially, Csikszentmihalyi discovered that top performers weren’t performing or doing anything. They were simply “being”.
We tend to do best at anything when we’re completely comfortable with whatever it is we’re doing. When we become what we do.
4. Sexual Transmutation: Channeling Your Sexual Urges
According to Napolean Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, sexual energy is the highest type of creative energy we can transfer into other areas of our life. Hill explains,
“The human mind responds to stimuli, through which it may be ‘keyed up’ to high rates of vibration, known as enthusiasm, creative imagination, intense desire, etc. The stimuli to which the mind responds most freely are:
1. The desire for sex expression
3. A burning desire for fame, power, or financial gain, money
5. Friendship between either those of the same sex, or those of the opposite sex
6. A Master Mind alliance based upon the harmony of two or more people who ally themselves for spiritual or temporal advancement
7. Mutual suffering, such as that experienced by people who are persecuted
If you try to suppress your sexual desires, you’ll end up creating a blockage in energy that leaves you feeling weak and lethargic. So what you want to do instead is to tap into sexual transmutation.
You most likely notice that the most successful people almost always have a high sex drive. There is a positive feedback loop between winning and sex drive. But the biggest factor is the channeling of sexual energy into productive energy.
Bukowski, Huxley, and Picasso are examples of successful men with a strong, edgy vibe. And they were also men with very high sex drives. Charles Bukowski , despite being a late starter, had many partners and lovers. Most of which he mentioned in his novel, Women. Aldous Huxley despite saying this quote, “An intellectual is a person who has discovered something more interesting than sex,” was also another Casanova. Having sex with countless women (he was one of the great seducers mentioned in the book Swoon). Pablo Picasso was married twice and had multiple mistresses.
What all these men had in common was that they channeled a lot of their sexual urges into their crafts.
This also applies to women. In a paper published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, a group of three researchers found that women in more dominant roles, with more advanced degrees and/or high-powered careers, had increased testosterone levels and much higher sex drives than the average woman. Showing the link between sex drive and ambition.
So go out and do activities that fill with you passion and leave you feeling inspired. Channel your sexual energy into your hobbies.
The more you pursue your mission. Whether that’s a calling, a cause, a purpose, a passion or an art, the more you’ll use your sexual desires to attract the life you want.
Conclusion: The Journey To Self-Mastery
Whether it’s through fear, respect, or love, we lean towards the more powerful force to guide us.
We only value what is useful. If you are not creating, leading, or providing value on behalf of a culture andd/or humanity, you are sent to the bottom and left with the smallest scraps of resources. While those that give the most value receive the most and best resources in return.
To become a giver of value, you must learn your value. You must first have mastery over yourself. This comes from changing your vibe, from changing your reality distortion field.
Your reality distortion field is always operating. It’s a reality that you project onto the world that becomes soon enough, becomes real.
Your beliefs about yourself are self-fulfilling. If you think you are not good enough, people will think the same and treat you with pity and sympathy. But if you’re convinced that you are a loving, giver of value, people will reward you by opening themselves to you and pointing you towards many opportunities.
You can master your life. That requires that you change your distortion field. It requires you to change from the inside out. It requires you to be a winner.
