The red carpet, the gowns, the formality followed by the requisite beach or bush parties, and general elevating and quick trashing of one’s soul…for what? Too many young people emerge from secondary education fog with little self-knowledge, not enough to half-fill the bindle-stick they’re going to take out into the world with them.
