You’ve probably heard the saying, “You are only as good as the company you keep.”

And hey, maybe there’s nothing wrong with the company you keep. But, are you limiting your reach to the same several people time and time again?

As human beings, we are basically hard-wired to desire a connection with others.

We want to have awesome relationships in life — with family, friends, co-workers, etc. — but we often overlook the power that positive relationships have on our success in business.

If you want to become a successful entrepreneur then start rubbing elbows with other successful entrepreneurs. Build relationships with people that can mentor you as well as lead you to opportunities that you would have never thought were possible.

So how do you build up a network? Better yet, how do you build up a powerhouse network of many influential people?

That’s a fair question. I’ll be honest, the answer is pretty simple…

I’ll break it down for you in these 3 quick points:

#1 Provide MASSIVE Value To Others

I seriously can’t stress this point enough. You’re not going to be very successful in business, or life, with a “Me, me, ME! What’s in it for me?!” kind of attitude.

The more that you’re willing to give to people, the more that you’ll get back in return. When you help others you are adding value to them and it’s going to come back ten-fold.

In the past few years, I’ve done so much for other people and through building these relationships with them over time, I’m able to call on them for a favor.

Business is all about good connections, and it really comes down to who you know. Show people that you’re willing to help them and they are going to be much more inclined to help you down the road.

#2 Be Consistent

You can’t expect to hit someone up once and then somewhere down the road ask them for a huge favor.

What effort have you put into that relationship? How have you made their life easier? If you can’t answer those questions then you really need to reconsider your expectations.

Get to know the people you want to have in your network. Ask them how their day was or about that event they have coming up. Reach out often and take an interest in what they have going on in their life.

#3 Be Genuine

Be a friend. Relationships aren’t built overnight — they take time, so don’t rush the process.

People aren’t going to remember you from a couple of impersonal interactions. You have to make a lasting impact on them. The best way to do this is by being open, honest, and transparent. Be yourself.

Learn things about the people you want to connect with — their strengths, their weaknesses, and what you can do for them without wondering what’s in it for you.

This quote by Zig Ziglar says it all… “If they like you, they will listen to you. If they trust you, they will do business with you.”

At the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter how hard you strive for success when you do it on your own. The people that you choose to network with and have in your life play an equally important role in your achievements.

Don’t get stuck in a mindset where you allow yourself to believe that you don’t need anyone else to succeed.

Having a strong network will allow you to reach goals faster, exponentially grow your brand, and open doors to new and unexpected opportunities.

Rome wasn’t built in one day. You have to lay your foundation and put in the work and dedication.

Continue to maintain the relationships you have while creating new ones. Eventually, your network will transform into your net worth and most valuable asset!
