This is What People Lack When Choosing Their Life’s Mission.

“Often, it’s not about becoming a new person, but becoming the person you were meant to be, and already are, but don’t know how to be.” — Heath L. Buckmaster

This quote holds true to every one of us.

Everyone who is just entering the real world. And by ‘real world’, I mean the real ‘you’.

We all take on the fury of the new world when we reach a certain age. We start looking out into the world, full of possibilities, finding our place in it, which isn’t easy.

We face a swarm of choices to choose from, and sooner or later, we have to pick one.

Choosing who we will be is a hard thing to do. It takes introspection and a cage of violent thoughts to go through.

To choose a work path means giving up the others. You can, at most, pursue 2–3 different things at once. And that, too, is a rare case.

This is what we millennials call FOMO — Fear Of Missing Out.

The fear of letting go of something better than what we’ve chosen for ourselves. We lack the confidence in our own choices.

We fear that we’re gonna miss out on being something better without defining what better means to us.

But what happens once we’ve chosen who we’ll be?

The initial phase after deciding who we’ll be takes some settling in.

What we lack in that phase is acceptance.

The acceptance of what we’ve decided to become, what path we’ve chosen to make our own.

A flurry of second thoughts occupies our mind.

“Maybe I should’ve become a musician instead of a chef.”

We just don’t know how to be the person we’ve chosen to become. After all, it’s our first time.

But we have to realise that it takes time.

It takes doing what you’ve chosen over and over again.

It takes courage to leave out potential options to choose the one.

And we’re not giving enough credit to the people who are doing this. The people who make the bold decisions. The people who accept who they are. The people who know who they are.

I tip my metaphorical hat to you, brave soul.

Because it’s not easy.

Sadly enough, most of the people today don’t dare to venture inwards. They don’t try to find out what they really want to be.

They sway with the wind, wherever it takes them, whatever it makes them.

You’re not a doctor if all you’ve wanted is to be a pilot all your life. You’re just a pilot with the skills of a doctor and a title before your name.

So choose wisely, talk to yourself, and accept who you are.

Own up to what you want to be, have a little faith, and have a lot of courage.

It is only then when you can start to be what you want to be.

It is only then when you can unleash your complete potential.

We already are the people we choose to be, the only thing missing is acceptance.
