Thursday is NOT the Day to Throw in the Towel

Break Your Ties With the Social Construct of Time

Every week, Thursday morning comes around and we have an uncontrollable need to self-assess.

We can’t help it.

We love viewing life at halfway points.

When the time we’ve assigned to a particular list of “to-do’s” has reached its midpoint, we have four choices:

  1. Imagine the possibility of finishing early (however rare that may be) because we’re absolutely killing it.
  2. Remain consistent with our work because we’re right on schedule
  3. Ramp up our efforts because we’re falling behind
  4. Throw in the towel because there’s no way we’re accomplishing our goals

I’m going to focus on that last one because it’s Thursday and next week there will be another Thursday. And, wouldn’t you know it, the week after that, there will be another Thursday.

The more often a point in time comes around, the easier it is to say “I’ll get to it next time.” Whether your task is daily, weekly, monthly, or even yearly, time is infinite and will continue providing you with another chance.

Until it doesn’t, of course.

Until the door slams shut on that opportunity you didn’t take advantage of. Until the people holding you accountable have lost all faith in your ability to take action. Until time itself has made your body frail with age and the clock becomes the only substantive item left in your world—counting down your final days.

Uncomfortable yet? Good. Motivated to continue taking on the rest of the week? Good.

If you throw in the towel every Thursday, you’ve told the world “I’m only going to give you 43% (3 out of 7 days) of my time before I flake.”

Are you serious!?

Every week, you’re going to leave 57% of life on the table and walk away for some hidden comfort you’re never going to find? Every Thursday through Sunday are you willing to commit to “relaxation,” while your dreams are gobbled up by individuals at least willing to go an extra day?

Wouldn’t you like to experience true relaxation in the form of “I accomplished my goals this week, let’s celebrate!”? Aren’t you tired of wallowing day in and day out wondering what your life could be if you didn’t keep running into barriers you’re unwilling to break through?

Do you like trying new things? How about using the next few days to experiment with number three on the list above—ramp up your efforts because you’re falling behind?

Next week, why not go after number two—remain consistent with your work because you’re right on schedule?

And dare I suggest becoming a precrastinator and putting all your effort into achieving number one—imagine the possibility of finishing early because you’re absolutely killing it?

You can absolutely climb this ladder. All you have to do is choose.
