“What to write?” I’m glad you asked.
Your memory needs justification. The only way you can justify your thoughts and experiences is, as Gary Vaynerchuk puts it, by documenting them.
This article shares a few ways in which I keep a record of my memories and how I justify them by the process of documenting.
I’ve come across many people who claim that their lives are ‘not interesting enough’ to create valuable content out of it. I’m sure you know some of these apparently ‘boring’ people as well (No offense if you are one of them 😊).
First of all, I don’t believe that all 24 hours of anyone’s life can be entirely boring. We all do stuff. From watching Netflix to cooking dinner in the evening, life keeps us occupied. These might sound as mundane and ordinary tasks but, trust me, if you approach them in a certain way, they become more interesting.
Where Focus Goes, Energy Flows
The approach is simple. If you can’t find anything exciting about your task then make it appear so either by adding something to it or by doing it differently.
You need to be creative. Try to look at the world with a different perspective (I like shutting off all my electronic devices while I write 👀). Dissociating yourself from the society puts in a position to experiment with your ideas.
Write it, Save it, Snap it
Next comes the process of documenting. Initially, try to brainstorm a few ideas on a piece of paper and keep it as a reference document for your content. Keep adding ideas to that document as you go about spending your day. Write about what you did, what didn’t you do, what you ate, etc.
At the end of your day, take five minutes and analyze all your thoughts and observations. I guarantee that there will be one or more ideas that you can either talk or write more about. Identify that topic and start creating a story. It could be anything from a new recipe or a new way to program. The important task is to record it in an effective way. When it comes to documenting, I prefer the old school approach of writing a journal, but you can also digitize your stories by using the various smartphone apps and platforms. Once you have an idea, you can either take a picture of it and then save it or you can snap it to your friends worldwide. Share your story online and then see the magic happen.
Technology is your Mind Palace
Don’t worry if you’re not Sherlock Holmes and thus cannot access your mind palace at any time. The key point, however, is all that saved work becomes your mind palace, which can be accessed through your personalized devices at all times.
Do not forget to keep updating your online documents with new ideas and experiences every day. Be consistent with documenting and your content production will be sufficient.
