Go to any article on the internet and you’ll find “5 ways to solve for X” or “how to make more _______ in two easy steps.” This may be great advice, but what if you have ambitions to become a writer but don’t have a twelve-step plan to help someone solve a problem?

The internet is obsessed with solving problems. That’s a good thing since we use the internet to find solutions to what ails us. But we’ve gotten to a point where we have more answers than we do questions. Why? Because we need to be seen as experts or we feel that we’ve somehow failed the internet.

Don’t give up the day job unless you’re solving world hunger.

I became a writer because I wanted to tell stories that sparked people’s imaginations. When I got into article writing, I ignorantly thought that wasn’t a good enough goal. Don’t give up the day job unless you’re solving world hunger.

I have since found that it’s okay to not know the answer, so long as I can accurately spell out the problem.

Why expertise is such an issue
