The TFAA asked world renowned sports economist Andrew Zimbalist to offer some insight on revenue sharing agreements between USATF and its athletes. It was interesting that he found it as difficult as we did to find out all the information to form his opinion. There are two big points:

1) Regardless of how you define professional, USATF is not redistributing revenues to its core athletes in line with other team or individual sports.

2) There is a need for greater transparency within USATF reporting in order for athletes’ to make informed decisions.

Athletes earn the right to compete for the Olympic and World Championship Team. They deserve to know more than the terms of the “Statement of Conditions.” They deserve to know what exactly they are giving up and what that’s worth in order to make informed decisions.
