Obama And The Socialism Conundrum

Help me try to understand something: Remember back before the election how everyone on the right was warning that a vote for Obama was a vote for socialism, and yet America voted overwhelmingly for Obama anyway? How come those same voices on the right are telling us that America did not vote for Obama’s brand of socialism when they went to the polls back in November? (And if the answer is, “Well, they were voting against the policies of Bush and McCain,” how do Republican policies differ now that they can stand as an alternative that has not already been soundly rejected?) I’m genuinely curious: Is it possible that they were lying then, when they screamed about Obama and socialism, or that they’re lying now, when they scream about Obama and socialism? Or do they actually believe both things? It’s puzzling!

Also, re the video above of a protester bringing a rifle to an Obama event (helpfully titled “Brother carries AR-15 Rifle at Obamabot Rally”), I’m not sure whether it’s parody or just self-parody, but either way, some sort of line has been crossed.
