For more background on the launch of this podcast, check out Introducing The Backbone!

Joining me on this episode is Anthony Scolaro, VP Finance & Operations at Lucova, a company powering experience commerce for in-store brands with our proprietary bluetooth technology.

Anthony has experience in a wide range of areas including finance, accounting and operations roles at Multinationals, NGO’s and start-ups including Right To Play, Deloitte, Fairmont Hotels and Scotiabank. He has international experience in over 35 countries in North and South America, Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa and has presented at conferences at the United Nations, in Washington, Moscow, Mumbai, and Beijing. Anthony is a Harvard Business School graduate (PLD), where he is a member of the Harvard Business School Alumni Angels of Toronto, Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) from the University of Toronto.

On this episode of The Backbone, I chat with Anthony about:

  1. His involvement with Lucova and how he became the VP Finance & Operations;
  2. What Lucova is all about and what it does;
  3. The similarities and differences between running finance at a NPO vs a high growth tech startup;
  4. The considerations for bootstrapping vs raising venture capital; and
  5. The importance of the finance function at an early stage technology company

We close things off with a quickfire round:

  • Favourite productivity hack
  • One thing you don’t leave the office before finishing
