On this episode of The Backbone I chat with Corey Noyek, Finance Manager at Platterz.

On to the show today, I’m thrilled to welcome Corey Noyek, Finance Manager at Platterz, an online catering marketplace that allows companies to receive personalized menus from local restaurants and caterers. Platterz offers personalized solutions for your company’s meals and events, from planning to delivery, and everything in between.

Corey is a Finance Leader at Platterz. He helped lead Platterz $15M (USD) Series A fundraising and expand their geographical footprint to 12 cities, across 3 countries. Prior to joining Platterz, Corey was working with both public and private companies at Deloitte, providing assurance services and transaction support. Corey obtained his CPA, CA designation while at Deloitte and holds a Honours of Business Administration Degree from the Ivey Business School at Western University.

On this episode of The Backbone, I chat with Corey about:

  1. His transition into tech and what made him decide to join the Platterz, from Deloitte.
  2. Platterz — what the company does and what is it all about.
  3. What metrics and KPIs are most important to running a localized marketplace across 10 different cities in Canada and the United States and the considerations to assess new market expansion.
  4. Learnings from raising Platterz $18M (CAD) Series A round.
  5. The importance of the finance function within a high growth technology company.

We close things off with a quickfire round:

  • Your go to online resource for all things startup finance related
  • Your favourite productivity hack
  • Tech jargon that makes you cringe
  • The best advise you’ve received
  • One thing you don’t leave the office before finishing
