June, Top-10 Moments
We continue right along with our top-10 moments during our 10th season in the Lehigh Valley. Although the Pigs cooled off from their hot, hot, hot month of May, June was still full of moments and memories. Let’s look back at some of the top moments now!
10. Jake Thompson Bobble Head Night

June 5th was our last bobble head giveaway for the 2017 season. We finished off this season series with the reigning I.L Pitcher of the Year, Jake Thompson. Bobble head giveaways always draw a crowd no matter what the weather calls for. Fans will lineup in front of the gates an hour or more before we open the park! Were you lucky enough to get all four bobble heads this season?
9. Mark Appel Talks About Faith and Baseball on Faith Night

Our annual Faith Night had a surprise this season when Mark Appel spoke with fans in-between games of the doubleheader. Appel talked about how his faith has helped to guide him through his baseball career thus far, as well as his life. Fans who listened to Appel speak got the chance to ask questions about what his faith means to him, and about other players on the team that he takes this journey with.
8. Superhero Night

Superhero Night made it’s return to Coca-Cola Park for the 2017 season. This season our “spider-senses” were tingling throughout the game with our Spiderman inspired uniforms. Theme nights like these are fun for everyone, and allow the fans to get involved by dressing the part as they come out for a ballgame. It also gives our staff members and mascots a chance to join in on the fun and festivities by wearing some superhero gear.
7. Team Autograph Session

One of our more popular promotions every season is the team photo giveaway with an autograph opportunity that follows. We open the park early so fans can arrive to get their team photo and try to make their way to every table to get their favorite Pigs signatures. Some tables are more popular than others, but fans wait out the line for that moment in the sun with their favorite player, and top prospects.
6. Father’s Day On-Field Catch

A Father’s Day tradition at the park has been to host an on-field catch after the game. Father’s and their sons or daughters show up to the park with gloves in hand ready to take the field. It’s a great opportunity for fans young and old to take in the sights from on the field, and have a long lasting memory with Dad on his special day.
5. Pablo Sandoval Rehab Appearance With Pawtucket

When the Paw Sox came to town towards the end of June, they had a special guest with them playing third base. Pablo Sandoval was making his way back from injury, and began his rehab with Pawtucket during a four game series against the Pigs. Sandoval is most known for his time with the San Francisco Giants where he was given the nickname “King Fu Panda”. Sandoval is a three time World Series Champion, named WS MVP in 2012, and is a two time All-Star.
4. #AllHailTheKing

Scott Kingery earned a call-up from Double-A Reading to the Valley towards the end of June. His Triple-A debut came on a Tuesday night against the Paw Sox. Kingery’s first at-bat was a lead-off single, and it’s only gotten better from there. In the four games he played in June, Kingery hit .333, with 3 HR, 6 RBI, and had a 1.133 .OPS.
3. Five IronPigs Selected to All-Star Game

There have been a few records set so far during the 2017 season, and the All-Star selections would be no different. A franchise-record five IronPigs got selected to the partake in the Triple-A All-Star Game in Tacoma, Washington this season. The five players selected this season surpassed the 2010 All-Star game in the valley in which four Pigs got the chance to play.
2. Salute To Philadelphia Night

Last season’s “Promo of the Year” made its triumphant return to Coca-Cola Park for the 2017 season. We played off of our Lehigh Valley Cheesesteaks and tied together a legendary era of Phillies baseball by calling ourselves the Whiz Kids. Everything we do in park during this promotion has a Philly centric theme, from food and drink specials to our in-between innings contest and skits. And of course there’s an appearance from the famous Phillie Phanatic, the most popular mascot in sports.
1. Seven Straight Sell-outs Sets Franchise Record

From June 9th through the 26th we sold-out seven straight games. This set a new franchise record for sell-outs in a row. Obviously these sell-outs wouldn’t be possible without the support of the best fans in MiLB!
