A Bridge to Nowhere
Thrifty Words Theme Challenge #15: Transition
He could not seem to transition into adulthood, no matter how hard he tried. James worked harder at getting out of work than actually doing any. No relationship lasted. Jobs came and went, once he had earned enough for a pack of smokes and a beer or two. So sad.
This society is doing a poor job educating its youth, parents are failing at bringing up responsible, respectable children (I include myself here) by enabling and coddling. I believe children like young James here are victims of falling through the cracks, as well as being denied the ability to grow up because they have a label on them like ADD or ODD. How can they make the transition into adulthood without being taught what to do and how to handle it? Should they be medicated? Thrown to the wolves? Forced into the military? Sent to rehab?
I have three sons and two of them struggle to this day because they were in this group. We tried everything, including medication and therapy. One even went to a place in Utah for kids on the verge of self-destruction and drug addiction. Now in their thirties, we are still waiting for them to “grow up”.
We need to do a better job with our kids or the world is doomed to end up like the movie Idiocracy. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks for reading!
