Some folks need to brush up on their “American” history.

I have a neighbor, Sarah, who was once a good neighbor. She was not my close friend, but she was my accommodating neighbor. We would let each other know if we were heading out of town. If packages showed up while either of us was gone, the other would gather those packages and keep them until we returned from vacation.

We did Halloween together, sitting and talking in one of our driveways, passing out candy, and laughing at the costumes that the children had on. If we saw one another in the local stores, we would stop and chat about our HOA, our children, or our grandchildren. All of that stopped once Trump got elected. We did not punch each other in the face, but avoided casual interactions.

When Trump was elected for a second time, that changed. Sarah was jubilant, finding reasons to stop by my home to poke me. That poke did not get her what she wanted. Instead, it awoke the villain mode in me.
