British PM Proposes Legislation Likely to Hasten Deaths of Seniors and the Disabled
It’s cruel, discriminatory, and shortsighted
The British PM has announced plans to cut the numbers of unskilled workers into the country as well as making immediate changes for those applying on Care Visas.
There is already a desperate scarcity of carers in this country. The hours are long and the pay is very poor. Many carers are employed via agencies who siphon off as much money as they can leaving little for the people who are actually doing the work.
It’s quite common for a carer to be given between six and eight elderly or disabled people to visit per 8-hour shift. They are expected to travel to wherever their client lives, look after all the clients needs within half an hour - and then get to their next client within half an hour.
This is clearly impossible and most carers work far more hours than they are paid for. Plus, they are not paid for commuting.
Little wonder the industry finds recruitment and retention of carers so difficult. it’s estimated there is currently a need for around 70,000 carers .
And if old people and disabled people do not get the care they need – what do we expect will happen to them?
