100 WORDS
Happy Invasion Day!
Thrifty Words 100 Challenge #6: Entitlement
26th January marked the two-hundred-and-thirty-second anniversary of the invasion of the country known today as Australia when 1000 people – 700 of whom were convicted felons – landed on the shores of the continent of Australia.
In 1818, when Australia achieved sovereignty from Britain, January 26 became an official holiday marking the 30th anniversary of British settlement in Australia. It became known as Australia Day. Or as indigenous Aboriginals prefer to call it: Invasion Day.
Which side is more entitled to their opinion about the name of the day?
I leave that to your own conscience.
