You need to be reminded

I Am Your Taboo

Telling you nothing you don’t already know

You can look
as much as the heart desires
but you can never ever touch
Once we were like fire and ice
Now we are of different
husbands and wives
long buried
our fire and ice
long gone
our volcanic nights
deep beneath the ashes of youth
sleeping in restless slumber
are the rumblings of our volcanic
danger

I am your Taboo
the very light sleeping monster
like the thief in the night
one wrongly timed resurrection
and hot lava
slicing more deeply than any knife
consuming all in its path
scorching from mountain top
to valley below
blinded by the heat
the powerful friction
this massive eruption
unable to stop its own flow

I am your Taboo
long buried
our fire and ice
long gone
our volcanic nights
deep beneath the ashes of youth
sleeping in restless slumber
Best we rest upon its ledge
hands at our sides
dangling our feet
taking a passing look
deep beneath
a smile, quiet acknowledgement
an acceptance
that from this table
no meal can we ever again
eat
