Should you listen to your phone?… What?!

It seems a bizarre question, but let’s ask it.

(This should be a writing prompt at The Bad Influence.)

But I’m a writer, not an editor at TBI, thankfully. But still…

How absurd is the idea of having a portable telephone and deciding not to listen? Or is it absurd? How many people are misinformed or are exceptionally obsessed or obese or otherwise stupidified because they listen to their phones? I’ve seen this happen here in rural Panama.

The phone connection is a disconnect. What do you think, readers and writers on Medium?

I’ve always been an enemy of smartphones since the first time I saw one. It was the first Apple — my friend and neighbor was an early adopter. He immediately disappeared in phone-addict land. No more did we converse about forest ecosystems or anything at all except the supposed joys of having such a powerful tool to hold up to your face.

Thank you to Melissa R. Mendelson for the delightful prompt:

Thanks to you, all of you readers and writers.
…Fred
