Mary Katherine Horony a/k/a “Big Nose Kate” is the type of woman I never heard about in history class. But, if I had, I would have enjoyed learning more about her. Sexy, smart, and willing to take action when needed. She also embodied a free-spirit and independence so many of us aspire to develop within ourselves.
Kate was an independent woman. From an early age, she learned how to take care of herself after her parents died.
She is most famously known for being James Henry “Doc” Holliday’s common-law wife or on-and-off girlfriend. Big Nose Kate broke him out of jail when he was arrested for murder by marching into the hotel where officials were holding with her gun and demanding they turn Doc over to her. She was also there to console Doc Holliday after the shootout at the O.K. Corral.
