Make the Earth Whole Again

I don’t get easily riled up about political matters. And I almost never post my strong opinions on social media. There’s already too much noise and hatred and bickering, even about the smallest things, on such platforms.

But there’s one matter that concerns everyone’s future and the future of our children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and so on: Climate change is destroying our one common home, planet Earth.

Big business will talk try to talk you out of it because it will cost them money to make their operations Earth-friendly. But scientists will tell you that we are in deep, very deep, trouble. Take money out of the equation, and who do you think has more knowledge and data on which to build a case?

I’m just a layperson — I don’t even particularly follow the climate-change literature — but even I can feel the four seasons in my part of southeastern Pennsylvania slowly erode and morph into two seasons: No more spring and fall; just summer and winter. Temperate conditions are quietly disappearing.

Here are my thoughts, crazy as they might seem.

1. Every country on this planet should start flying a dual-design flag — or maybe a two-part flag — representing a worldwide-chosen Earth design along with their country design. We need a symbol…
