Silent Demons

Secrets are just silent demons we bury like feelings.
Lies are the truths we tell because those truths shall not be revealed.
Wash away the sadness only to bathe in pain, rinse and recycle.

Remember the rules and lessons they taught? Have you figured out they were wrong yet?
Those voices in your head, annoying as they might be, have your best interest at heart.
The world outside is simply looking for a misery partner.

Swings and porches, barstools and dirty floors, your personal (off) yellow brick road.
We all need something to follow anyway so choose wisely or the “wise” will choose for you.

They knew the demons existed because they met them when they were young.
The painstaking steps they took to get you to look the other way.
Just because they were too frightened to face them didn’t mean they had to deliver the same fate to you…cowards.

Robes, collars, classrooms, and couches tied you down and force-fed a closed mind, escape hatches nowhere to be found.
Climbing out now leads to a light they’ve always darkened with fear, no more.

Courage was killed, collateral damage and all.
They got their wish you see, it was the goal all along.
If there’s sand left in the hourglass you have a fighting chance, land that punch you’ve been waiting to throw for a lifetime.
