As part of my end-of-year review, I made a list of all the things I love to do but didn’t get much if any of this year, and unsurprisingly beach visits were way up at the top of my list.

What is it about the sea that attracts us so? For me, it’s the combination of the sea, sun, sand, and sky. No matter how often I come before it; I always feel thrilled anew. And what I do there is also immaterial — a walk, to paddle, swim, or just to feast my eyes, the sea enthralls me.

There is one magical place I love above all else. It’s the Caribbean Sea at Reduit beach on the island of St Lucia. I still remember the first time I saw it aged fourteen, and how it took my breath away. Blue, azure, aquamarine, as far as my eye could see. Just, beautiful.

How does the sea make you feel? Do you have a favourite sea or ocean? What’s the strangest, happiest, or most noteworthy sea experience you’ve experienced or can dream up?

Let’s hear all about it, but in thrifty words only, please…
