The Game’s eleventh studio Drillmatic is a polarizing project. On the first listen I couldn’t get beyond how many songs it is but on the second listen, I was able to dissect the project.

Hit-Boy continues his streak of stellar production and Game provides a barrage of bars from start to finish (including a 10 minute Eminem diss).

The Compton rapper’s most recent release is a 29 song project, even with hard hitting verses and some standout features that’s just too many songs. However I have to give Game credit for writing verses for that many songs and not losing the lyricism he is known for.

About 80% of the album has features.

That’s simply too many features no matter who you are as we watch Game attempt to draw a new audience by working with artists that don’t mesh with Game’s usual sound (Fivio and NBA Youngboy).

Even with the multitude of features, flow mimicking and name drops Drillmatic is a solid project.

All in all Drillmatic sounds amazing sonically whether you listen in your headphones or in the car. The classic track samples on the album are sure to either bring a smile or a fit of rage to Hip-Hop fanatics.

Stand out features from Pusha T, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Big Sean, Cam’ron and Chi-town legend Twista really add something to the project that help get past the lengthy tracklist.

Game earns a 8/10 for Drillmatic as the project is a solid body of work without the overall feel of focus or direction of past projects.
