The long awaited thriller series has finally premiered and viewers are left nothing close to speechless, quite the opposite actually. It was left trending nationally over twitter where fans both critiqued the first episode of not having the thrills they exactly hoped for, and praised it for being such a great start to the season. So, what exactly went on?

Chapter 1, as the episode was titled, began with the words “This story is inspired by true events,” a chilling message for the average T.V. viewer.

It starts off with a happy couple, Shelby played by Sarah Paulson and Matt played by Cuba Gooding Jr., moving into an almost ancient farmhouse. Things of course take a turn for the worse when they encounter strange noises and a break in at another point.

Through the episode we get the character’s input as a documentary would do. This is something Writer and Creator Ryan Murphy has never done before. Viewers are introduced to new characters and new concepts, like the documentary style and also the fact that main characters were played by more than one actor in different settings. It’s a surprise when viewers are hit with the fact there is no theme song or even a clear theme title. Seasons one through five all had their usual theme song and their specifically written theme title, Freak Show and Hotel, for example.

Transitioning to commercials however, My Roanoke Nightmare comes up each time. This had fans taking to Twitter to share their thoughts and opinions on what it all meant. When you do your research you find that the Roanoke Colony was where over 100 colonists had gone but were never found, and that’s almost the idea viewers got out of this seasons premiere.

From, raining teeth, to burying dead pigs, and even breathing forest grounds this episode was confusing for the dedicated fans to put together. A bigger rage the fans were trending was the fact that there was no Jessica Lange or Evan Peters, two of the most talked about cast members of nearly every season. Another long awaited cast member is Lady GaGa who made her debut to the show last season with Hotel, which led to winning her first Golden Globe. Fans are sure she will make her appearance because of GaGa’s social media posts.

An unusual part of this premiere was they didn’t give a peek at what the rest of the season has to hold, or even next week’s episode, until 11 p.m. that night which wasn’t immediately after, this also had viewers confused and wanting more. However once that time came they delivered quite a peek at next week,

So, like the fans normally do, they erupted with excitement to see their beloved show return, however the critiques and negative reviews were not held back. People gave the usual comment about how it was “boring” and some got more in depth by criticizing how the style didn’t fit with what the show really was about. Overall it was enough for a premiere, but that’s just the thing it was only a premiere so it ended very confusingly and throughout the whole thing Murphy gave out too many questions that just added up. This is what really made the story line unclear for viewers to start off with.

You can say the waiting has come to an end for this season’s premiere but with all the jump scares and cryptic scenes there is still lots of questions to be answered and stories to be unfolded, and that’s where viewers will have to wait for themselves.
