Infectious Diseases SCOPE: Town Hall COVID-19 Discussions

Discussions that are open to the public to gain a broader understanding of the current pandemic including the response, the policy, and forecasting.

With the current pandemic, institutions, especially collegiate institutions, have had to find new ways to teach courses and keep students engaged. Our Student Community of Practice and Engagement (SCOPE) is no different.

Starting next week, our SCOPEs will be moving to virtual platforms to allow students to continue to benefit from the programming we have been providing them for the last three years. Special guest speakers and moderators will join students via Zoom to bring insights into industry and professional career goals for each of our students.

This also serves as a way to stabilize our community in a time of need. One of the pillars of the OSU Battelle Center for Science, Engineering, and Public Policy in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs is understanding how important a professional community can help you when you need it most. In these uncertain and anxious times, it’s paramount that we are able to continue to lean on our commmunities for support. While we may not be able to be in the same physical space currently, we can still get together, be social, and find ways to interact in productive ways.

With this, our Infectious Diseases SCOPE has scheduled their meetings as weekly gatherings that will run in a Virtual Town Hall format to discuss the latest information in research, pandemic response, policy options, and forecasts for COVID-19. These talks will be structured around the scientific and policy aspects of this pandemic and will serve as a good medium for questions and information on these topics. Discussion will be moderated by investigators at the Infectious Diseases Institute, guests from agencies and industry, as well as OSU Battelle Center and will take place every Thursday starting on March 26th at 5:00.

These Zoom meetings will be open to anyone, not just OSU students, although the interaction of students will be prioritized during these moderated discussions. It is important to note that this will not be a space for official news from Ohio State and it will not serve as a space for information regarding university business, but rather, a broader understanding of the current COVID-19 outbreak from a variety of angles.

You can join these events by clicking here every Thursday at 5 starting next week.
