The Last Poem

A Poem

The last poem I wrote
was more prose than anything else
Actually
it might have been more paper
than anything else
but it stuck itself out
put on its clothes one at a time
even let me watch
Yes, I do love to watch
that
I promise to do better than that
that I won’t deceive you
or in so many words
It’s an archetypal sandbox
without any castles
It’s a stretch of garden mud
that no footprints have marked yet
It’s foolish
but I liked that last poem
Maybe
even more than I like this one
