a moment
perhaps a few days around
an American holiday
meant for rest
she sits in the icon
for renunciation

sheds the weight of the satin
skin, with the potency
of feminine power
it slips away
as the chrysalis
never meant
to hold her forever

she rides away
from the courthouse
a witness without testimony
a circular wind
and she’s gone
the stirring of the hurricane
shows herself out
class dismissed

the field is bright
with the firelight celebration —
a two night horizon
music and family
loving and knowing
