Melanie Allen: Local Marketing in Practice

A self-starter. A mother. A marketer. Melanie Allen is the co-founder of a two-woman marketing consulting agency in Indianapolis, IN, Green Loop Marketing.

With 15 years of experience under her belt, her secret is simple.

“Work hard and stay flexible,” Allen said.

Allen worked as a freelance marketing consultant before meeting Meghan Martin and starting Green Loop Marketing in 2012.

In her time as a freelancer she worked with several big name brands such as Jiffy Lube of Indiana and BirchBox, creating content and developing strategy.

Allen says it took a lot of hard work to get where she is today. Freelancing, although exciting and flexible work, can also be difficult at times and inconsistent.

Today she runs Green Loop Marketing with partner Martin. They have found their niche in local business brand awareness.

“We have worked on a few really interesting projects this year,” Allen said. “Fam Jams was a great collaboration event that raised money for Exodus Refugee Immigration. I also loved creating the ‘9 Marketing Trends of 2019’ piece.”

Allen went on to explain that marketing trends piece exemplified a different kind of collaboration where professionals were able to come together to discuss the future of marketing.

“I made the most of my time in undergrad. I studied abroad in Moscow, I tutored. I think it’s really about what you do outside of the classroom,” Allen said.

In an industry that is ever changing, Allen explained that flexibility and vision stand the test of time.
