Jordan Marshall came to Mercer with hopes of pursuing an engineering degree in 2013. He realized during his freshman year that he was inherently a creative and wanted to pursue opportunities that allowed him to create visual content.

He ended his Mercer career with a marketing major and a photography minor as a 2017 Stetson School of Business graduate.

He currently serves as the Visual Media Coordinator at First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Georgia.

“I do all things visual for social media platforms, the website and print,” Marshall said. “That includes photography, videography and graphic design.”

Marshall said each of his days look completely different from the other, and that’s one of his favorite things about his role at FPD.

Marshall also serves as the running back coach for the FPD football team. In these two roles, he has to practice leadership and mentorship to the students at the school.

“I visit a lot of classrooms to tell the story of the school and to capture kids in their element and of course to teach the game of football,” Marshall said.

He was able to receive this position right after graduation in May 2017 because of a recommendation someone else provided. He said he would have started searching for jobs a lot sooner if he would have known how rigorous the process really is.

He also puts his photography minor to use with his personal business, Jordan Marshall Photography, LLC.

“It was something I was doing already, and people kept asking me to do stuff for them,” Marshall said. “Why not turn it into a business?”

Marshall said his photography helped him to bring in another source of income. So far this year, Marshall has had 11 photo shoots. He specializes in wedding and lifestyle photography.

He is most proud of being able to have a feature with LIDS, a national hat and sports apparel chain store. He received this opportunity in July 2018, helping him gain a larger following on his social media pages.

“One of my challenges with my business thus far has been growing a consistent following on social media,” he said. “My business and job have both taught me the importance of building a brand on social media.”

Marshall said his role model in his field of work is Tyson Hutchins. He is the creative director for Brigham Young University in Utah.

His ultimate goal is to serve in a similar role at the university or professional level that will allow him to create content in athletics. For students that may be interested in pursuing the kind of work he currently does, he said it’s important to intern early.

“They look for experience over school,” he said.
